Looking for an excuse to get outdoors, enjoy spring, and perhaps even learn something new?  You’re in luck! There are still a few spaces left in the ’Identifying Spring Wildflowers’ workshop, Sunday April 26, 1:00-4:00 pm, at Creekshead Nature Preserve.  Cost: $10 Stewardship Network members, $15 non-members. You can register online or call 734-996-3190.

Spring wildflowers come & go in what seems like a blink of an eye — and now is the time to see them. At this workshop, you’ll learn how to identify Michigan spring wildflowers. The workshop covers topics such as plant identification, an introduction to ‘indicator species’, and a discussion of threats to wildflower areas, including invasive plants such as garlic mustard. We’ll then hit the trail to see what we can find and identify. All attendees receive a handy flower identification book to take home.  Hope you can join us!

Earth Day in Jackson

Last Sunday, I was out in the rain all day for a good cause — Earth Day!  The Jackson Area Outdoor Coalition (of which the Legacy Land Conservancy is a member) holds an annual “Celebrate Earth Day” event at Cascades Park.

And here’s the great thing: even the wind and rain didn’t keep people away. We estimate there were up to 400 people there over the course of the day, learning about what they can do to help the environment. Next year, hoping for clear skies…
